The Truth about Keeping Secrets by Savannah Brown

Book Description: Sydney's dad is the only psychiatrist for miles around their small Ohio town. He is also unexpectedly dead. Is Sydney crazy, or is it kind of weird that her dad-a guy whose entire job revolved around other peoples' secrets-crashed alone, with no explanation? And why is June Copeland, homecoming queen, and the town's golden child, at his funeral? As the two girls grow closer in the wake of the accident, it's clear that not everyone is happy about their new friendship. But what is picture-perfect June still hiding? And does Sydney even want to know?

THE TRUTH ABOUT KEEPING SECRETS is a page-turning, voice-led, high school thriller.

Book Review:  For me, The Truth About Keeping Secrets is the perfect blend of Romance, mystery, and grief. The Book follows Sydney as she grieves the death of her father, and refuses to believe his death was an accident. I found myself completely enthralled in the mystery of Sydney's death and how the love interest June seemed to know more about the incident and her father than June did.

It seemed like the book focused more on love and grief rather than a mystery. Nonetheless, I found the writing to be very well done. The author did a great job of highlighting the fact that grief is a powerful emotion that can cloud one's judgment and make them see things that aren't really there.

Additionally, I loved the poetic writing style of Savvanah Brown, which is not surprising given that she is a poet. Her elegant and beautiful writing made reading this book a unique experience compared to others.

Overall, I enjoyed this book for its awareness of the effects grief can have on people, especially after death. Along with the well-crafted and fully developed relationship between Sydney and June.  Out of all the books I've read so far this year, this one easily makes it to my top 10. I highly recommend it to others who are looking for a great read.
